The HelpDesk disk contains a Windows program called "Install.exe" which is used to install the HelpDesk files to disk. If installing from a floppy drive, follow the following steps: 1. Place the flopy disk in the drive, closing the door if a 5 1/4 drive. 2. Run the Install program in one of the following ways: A. At the Dos prompt enter: win x:\\Install where x is the disk drive the HelpDesk floppy is in. (A or B ) B. From within Windows, Select "File" , "Run" , and enter x:\\Install where x is the disk drive the HelpDesk floppy is in. C. From within Windows "Program Manager", select the "X:" drive icon where x is the disk drive the HelpDesk floppy is in. Double click on the "Install.exe" filename. The Install program should now be running. The following steps take place in the HelpDesk Install program. 3. Enter the Drive & Directory you want the HelpDesk files installed to. Example: you want to install the HelpDesk files on your hard drive C: in the directory "HelpDesk", you will enter "C:\\HelpDesk" into the Install To: box. 4. Click "Install" to start the installation. Install will create the directory and then uncompress and copy the files to that directory. 5. Click the "Quit" button to exit Install. 6. Install will then run HelpDesk and make it an icon at the bottom of the screen. You can run HelpDesk by double clicking the HelpDesk icon. 7. Create a backup copy of the disk. See your Dos manual if you need help. 8. Add the HelpDesk directory to the path statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. path=c:\\dos;c:\\HelpDesk 9. Add the HelpDesk icon to the Windows Startup Group so it will execute automatically at Windows start up. With Program Manager, follow the instructions below: 1. Click once on the program group where you want the HelpDesk icon to appear. 2. Click the Program Manager's File menu command. 3. Click the New command. 4. Click OK in the next dialog box to create a new program item. 5. Type HelpDesk, then press the key. 6. Type the Path to your HelpDesk directory, then type HelpDesk.EXE. Your entry should look like this (with your own path information): C:\\HelpDesk\\HelpDesk.EXE 7. If you use Windows 3.1, enter the path for your HelpDesk directory in the Working Directory Field as well. 8. Check your information, then click OK. 9. The HelpDesk icon will appear in the program group box you selected. You may have to use the scroll bars to find it, but you can then drag the icon to a new location. 10.Remember: in order to save your new Program Manager screen, you must check the Save Changes box when you exit Windows after loading HelpDesk. This completes the installation of HelpDesk on your computer and into Windows. If the HelpDesk files are recieved from a BBS, the files will be compressed into one file. Uncompress the files following the BBS instructions. Then follow the above instructions. To run HelpDesk, start Windows, then double click on the HelpDesk icon. That's all there is to it. However, if you use another program shell in Windows, you may have to use a different technique to start the program. Consult your shell program's manual for detailed information.
